Every 3rd support ticket is automated.
What AI really delivers in e-commerce customer service in 2026 – data from 131 shops and 2.9M resolved tickets.
Key findings
- 0132.9% of all resolved tickets are automated (AI or workflows).
- 02AI resolves 4.9% of all tickets entirely without humans – but whenever AI touches a ticket, it closes 1 in 5 (20.3%) end-to-end.
- 03AI-resolved tickets close in 1.9 days (median) instead of 3.0 days manually – roughly 37% faster.
- 04Workflow-automated tickets close in 1.0 day – roughly 65% faster.
- 05In peak season (Q4 / Black Friday) total automation rises to 35.2% – workflows absorb the rush.
- 06Email remains the most important support channel at 63% – Instagram (15.4%) ranks ahead of WhatsApp (11.2%).
A third runs without your team.
32.9% of all resolved tickets are automated – by AI or a no-code workflow. AI touches 24.2% of all tickets and resolves 4.9% end-to-end. Sounds small? Whenever AI touches a ticket, it closes 1 in 5 entirely on its own.

Automated means clearly faster.
AI-resolved tickets close after a median of 1.9 days instead of 3.0 days manually – roughly 37% faster. Workflow-automated tickets close in 1.0 day, roughly 65% faster. For your customers that means: an answer before they follow up.
Email dominates. Instagram beats WhatsApp.
Email remains the most important support channel in e-commerce at 63%. Behind it things get interesting: Instagram (15.4%) ranks ahead of WhatsApp (11.2%) – social channels have long been support channels.

n = 131 shops · Jun 2025 – Jun 2026Total automation (AI + workflows), share of resolved tickets.
In peak season automation goes up – not the stress.
Q4 with Black Friday is the stress test for every support team. That is exactly when total automation climbs to 35.2% (vs. 32.1% for the rest of the year) – workflows absorb the rush before it reaches your team.
“Whenever AI touches a ticket, it resolves 1 in 5 without any human.”
20.3% end-to-end resolution rate on AI-touched ticketsMethodology & definitions
So you know what you are citing: how we measured.
AI-resolved
AI resolves the ticket completely – no human, no workflow.
Workflow-automated
A no-code flow leads to the resolution.
Total automation
A workflow or any form of AI involvement.
Cohort & window. We analysed 131 shops that had been live for at least 60 days and had ≥ 50 resolved tickets; test accounts were excluded. The observation window is June 2025 to June 2026. Segments are only reported from n ≥ 20 customers upwards.
Limitations
- The sample consists of Chatarmin customers and is not representative of e-commerce as a whole.
- Automation rates depend heavily on setup, industry and ticket mix – individual values vary widely.
- What counts as a "ticket" can differ between helpdesk systems.
