  • Green Checkmark Significance: The green checkmark on WhatsApp signifies a verified business account, indicating that Meta has authenticated the company's online presence, similar to the blue badge verification on other social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter.
  • Verification Requirements: To obtain a green checkmark, businesses must be well-known, have a verified Meta Business Suite with a proven track record, and submit a formal request for verification.
  • Verification Process: The process involves accessing the WhatsApp Manager in the Meta Business Suite, selecting the relevant WhatsApp Business Account, confirming two-factor authentication, and submitting the verification request with supporting documents.
  • Benefits of Verification: Verified accounts gain customer trust, higher messaging limits, and a better brand appearance, while non-verified accounts face challenges like lower trust and unprofessional appearance.

What Does the Green Checkmark on WhatsApp Mean?

Requirements for the Green Checkmark on WhatsApp

There’s no definitive public explanation for why some companies get verified and others don’t, but Meta lists the following criteria for receiving a green check:

  • Relevance: The company must be “notable,” “relevant,” and “widely known.”
  • Verified META Business Suite: Your company’s Facebook Business Manager should show a proven track record (e.g., ad spend). This is also important for your WABA’s messaging limits and quality rating.
  • Green Tick Application: Without applying for the Green Tick, nothing happens. We’ll explain how to request your WhatsApp green badge below.

If you meet the first two criteria, your chances of getting verified on the first attempt are good. If not, you can reapply every 30 days.

The Three Phases of WhatsApp Verification

WhatsApp Business accounts fall into three categories:

Display name vs green checkmark: What's what in WhatsApp Business.

  1. No Display Name: Startups like “EEVA RIA” may appear only with their phone number in chats—no display name, no green check.
  2. Display Name but No Verification: Most WhatsApp Business accounts start like this. A display name is visible but not yet verified.
  3. Verified with Green Check: Some brands with high Meta Ad quality receive instant verification.
