Your Shopify store is growing, your support inbox is overflowing. A Shopify helpdesk pulls email, WhatsApp, Instagram and live chat into one place and automates the standard questions that slow your team down every day: "Where is my order?", returns, invoices. The only question is which tool actually does that well for a German store. We compared six candidates, with pricing from public sources and one clear benchmark: what the tool can do inside Shopify itself.
The short answer: which helpdesk is best for Shopify?
The best helpdesk software for Shopify stores in Germany in 2026 is armincx: its AI performs actions directly in Shopify, from cancellations to refunds to address changes. In the Chatarmin benchmark study covering 131 merchants and 2.9 million tickets, "Where is my order?" alone accounts for 54.6% of all classified tickets. That is exactly the block the AI automates first. Gorgias remains the strongest choice for pure Shopify D2C brands with a US focus, eDesk for sellers with an Amazon and eBay footprint, Zendesk for enterprise setups.
Shopify helpdesk comparison: which tool does what?
| Tool | Pricing model | Shopify actions from the ticket | AI cost | WhatsApp / Amazon | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| armincx | Flat fee + AI credits, pricing on request | Yes, performed by the AI itself (cancellation, refund, address, invoice) | Included in credits, no per-ticket or per-seat cost | WhatsApp native, Amazon via Seller Central connection | DACH stores from a few hundred tickets/month |
| Gorgias | $10 to $900/month by ticket volume | Yes, by agents and the AI Agent | $0.90 to $1.00 per resolution, also counts as a ticket | WhatsApp yes, Amazon via third-party app | Shopify D2C with a US focus |
| Richpanel | AI agent $500/month plus $100/seat | Yes, including subscription actions | Included in credits, 50% resolution guarantee | WhatsApp as a secondary channel, no Amazon | Self-service fans, US market |
| eDesk | From $49/month, tiered by store count | Edit orders inside the ticket | AI Automation $0.99 per fully resolved ticket | Both, plus marketplaces | Multichannel sellers with Amazon/eBay |
| Zendesk | $55 to $115/agent/month | Shopify data visible, actions via app/click | Copilot +$50/agent, resolutions extra (price not public) | WhatsApp yes, Amazon only indirectly | Enterprise, many departments |
| Freshdesk | $19 to $89/agent/month | Basic integration via marketplace app | Copilot +$29/agent, sessions $49/100 | WhatsApp yes, no Amazon | Small teams on a budget |
All prices from public sources, as of August 2026, with details and sources in each tool section. All five competitors bill in US dollars, which is why prices appear in $ here. Vendors change pricing regularly, so check the relevant pricing page before signing anything.
How do you spot good helpdesk software for Shopify?
Four axes decide whether customer service software works for your Shopify store or just becomes another inbox.
1. Depth of action. Does the tool only display order data, or does it perform actions from the ticket: cancellation, refund, address change, sending an invoice? And more importantly: does an agent do that with a click, or does the AI handle it itself? This is where the field splits.
2. AI cost model. Almost every vendor has an AI agent in 2026. The question is what an automated reply costs. Per resolution, per session, per seat or as a flat fee: that decides whether automation relieves your budget or blows it up in Q4.
3. Multichannel including WhatsApp and Amazon. According to the Chatarmin benchmark, 63.0% of all support tickets arrive by email. The rest spreads across WhatsApp, social and marketplaces. A helpdesk that cannot handle one of those channels puts you back into tab-switching.
4. DACH readiness. EU hosting, clean GDPR data processing, connections to German systems like JTL or Billbee, German-language onboarding. US tools like to ignore this point. German stores cannot.
Number 1: armincx
armincx is Chatarmin's AI customer service product and was built AI-first from day one. The AI is the core, the ticketing system sits around it. The Shopify connection installs in one click through the App Store: orders, products and customer data flow into the ticket automatically.
The core principle: the AI performs the action itself. It recognises a cancellation request, cancels in Shopify, confirms to the customer. The same applies to:
- Refunds straight from the ticket
- Address changes before dispatch
- Invoices on request
- Individual discount codes, in Shopify and JTL simultaneously where needed
Why number 1? Because the numbers are public, in the AI customer service benchmark study: 131 merchants, 2.9 million tickets, 32.9% automation rate on average, with the top quartile reaching 61.2% of resolved tickets. The order status case is the biggest ticket driver in any store at 54.6% of classified tickets. That is where automation kicks in first. These are averages across 131 merchants in live operation, not demo figures.
Then there is the DACH stack: JTL, Xentral, Billbee and Shopware are natively connected, and Amazon enquiries land in the same inbox through the Seller Central connection. And because Chatarmin also does WhatsApp marketing, a customer reply to your campaign turns straight into a ticket. Marketing and support run through one vendor.
The limits: armincx has no public pricing and no free plan. The model is a flat fee with included users plus variable AI credits. For a micro store with 50 tickets a month, that is oversized. It gets interesting from a few hundred tickets a month, when automation replaces staff hours. Onboarding is handled by a German-speaking team, but it costs you time to map your workflows.
Number 2: Gorgias
Gorgias is the incumbent in Shopify support, and that reputation is earned. Its Shopify integration is among the deepest on the market: order history in the ticket, editing orders, triggering refunds, all without opening the Shopify admin. According to the vendor, the AI Agent also resolves returns and FAQs on its own. If you run a pure Shopify D2C brand with English-language support, you will not go far wrong with Gorgias.
The catch is the pricing model. Gorgias bills per ticket:
- Starter: $10/month for 50 tickets
- Basic: $60/month for 300 tickets
- Pro: $360/month for 2,000 tickets
- Advanced: $900/month for 5,000 tickets
- Overage: $0.36 to $0.40 per additional ticket
Every AI resolution costs $0.90 (annual contract) to $1.00 on top and, according to the Gorgias FAQ, counts as a helpdesk ticket at the same time. So you pay twice: once for the ticket, once for the automation. Run that for 2,000 automated enquiries and roughly $1,800 in resolution costs sit on the invoice next to the Pro plan.
What is missing: for the German market, native connections to ERP systems like JTL, Xentral or Billbee are missing, and Amazon only works according to Gorgias' own documentation through the third-party app ChannelReply. There is no guaranteed EU hosting: Gorgias' own Data Processing Agreement governs transfers of EEA data to third countries via standard contractual clauses. Anyone looking for a Gorgias alternative for Shopify is usually looking because of these points plus the per-ticket pricing.
Number 3: Richpanel
Like Gorgias, Richpanel is e-commerce native and leans heavily on self-service: customers handle returns and order status in a portal themselves, before a ticket even exists. Its AI performs Shopify actions, including subscription changes via Recharge and Loop. Worth noting: Richpanel offers a 50% resolution guarantee within 30 days, or your money back.
Pricing changed in 2026:
- AI agent: $500/month
- Seat for human agents: $100/month
- Careful: older seat plans from $29 still show up on G2 and Capterra, so budget with the new model
Richpanel itself names roughly 2,000 conversations per month on its pricing page as the threshold where the model pays off.
The flip side: Richpanel is a US vendor with a US focus. WhatsApp is a secondary channel, German ERPs are missing, and you will have to clarify EU data residency and a data processing agreement yourself before signing. For DACH stores with GDPR requirements, that is a checkpoint, not a detail.
Number 4: eDesk
eDesk answers a different question: what if Shopify is only one of five channels? According to the Shopify App Store, the tool bundles over 250 integrations, while the vendor itself talks about 300+ marketplaces and channels, including Amazon, eBay and TikTok Shop. On top of that come SLA timers tuned to Amazon's 24-hour response window. Orders can be edited directly in the ticket. For sellers whose ticket volume is half marketplace traffic, eDesk is the specialist in this list.
Pricing according to the App Store listing:
- Entry: from $49/month for one store
- Growth: $115/month for five stores
- AI Automation: $0.99 per fully resolved ticket
Careful with the tiering: every additional marketplace account counts as a store and pushes you into the next plan faster than the entry price suggests.
Where it falls short: on Capterra, users praise the marketplace connections but criticise repeated price increases. Its AI depth inside Shopify does not match armincx, Gorgias or Richpanel. eDesk is a marketplace tool with a Shopify connection, not the other way round.
Number 5: Zendesk
Zendesk is the Swiss army knife of helpdesks: every channel, every industry, every team. In a Shopify context that is strength and weakness at once. The Shopify app shows order data in the ticket, but for actions and e-commerce workflows you need apps, configuration or partners. If you run B2B support, internal IT ticketing and a call centre alongside your store, Zendesk gives you all of it from one vendor.
What the Suite costs (annual contract):
- Team: $55/agent/month
- Professional: $115/agent/month
- Copilot: $50/agent/month extra
- AI Agents: included in all plans since May 2026, but only with 5 to 15 free resolutions per agent per month
After that a counter runs per automated resolution, and Zendesk does not publish that price. Independent pricing analyses put it at $1.50 to $2.
The cost trap: for a pure Shopify store you pay Zendesk for breadth you do not use, then buy the e-commerce depth back at a premium.
Number 6: Freshdesk
Freshdesk is the cheapest entry point in this list. After its first price increase in five years, the Growth plan costs $19/agent/month according to the Freshworks pricing page, Pro $55 and Enterprise $89, each billed annually. There is no permanent free plan any more, only a Free Program for one or two agents, capped at six months. Ticketing, knowledge base and automation rules are solid. For a small team climbing out of the shared-inbox chaos, that is a fair start.
The AI is called Freddy and comes as separate products:
- Copilot: $29/agent/month, requires at least the Pro plan
- AI Agent: billed per session, with 500 free sessions once per account
- After that: $49 per 100 sessions, so roughly $490 per 1,000 sessions
Automate a lot and you will soon pay Freddy more for sessions than for seats.
The limit: the Shopify integration is a marketplace app that displays data, with no depth of action. EU hosting is not guaranteed, Freshdesk runs on global servers. A good generalist at a small price, but not an e-commerce specialist.
Reviews: what do users report about these tools?
- Gorgias sits at 4.5 out of 5 on G2, with recurring criticism of the per-ticket model: costs are hard to plan during seasonal peaks, and auto-responses sometimes count as billable tickets.
- Zendesk: G2 reviewers regularly note in the pricing overview that important features such as detailed analytics only unlock from Suite Pro at $115.
- eDesk: Capterra reviews praise the channel coverage and criticise the pricing policy, and the tool holds 4.8 out of 5 from 29 reviews in the Shopify App Store.
- Freshdesk: analyses of G2 reviews and Reddit threads describe the Freddy session costs as hard to forecast.
armincx is the youngest tool in this list and accordingly has fewer public reviews than a Zendesk with almost two decades of head start. What we do instead is publish our automation data as a study, including the uncomfortable numbers like the median. Judge for yourself.

FAQ about Shopify helpdesks
Which helpdesk software is best for Shopify stores in Germany?
For stores from a few hundred tickets a month, armincx is the best choice, because its AI performs actions like cancellations and refunds directly in Shopify; order status enquiries account for 54.6% of classified tickets according to the benchmark study. Gorgias is the strongest alternative for US-focused Shopify D2C brands, eDesk for sellers with a marketplace focus.
Does Shopify have its own helpdesk?
Yes. Shopify Inbox is included in every Shopify plan and covers live chat well, but it does not replace a multichannel ticketing system with email, WhatsApp and AI automation.
What does a Shopify helpdesk cost?
The range runs from $19/agent (Freshdesk Growth) through $10 to $900/month by ticket volume (Gorgias) up to four-figure monthly bills for enterprise setups. Always factor in the AI cost: depending on the vendor, $0.49 to $2 per automated reply or session comes on top.
Is Gorgias enough for German Shopify stores?
It depends. For English-language D2C support without ERP requirements yes, but as soon as JTL, Billbee, Amazon tickets or guaranteed EU hosting enter the picture, Gorgias hits its limits.
Can an AI resolve tickets inside Shopify on its own?
Yes. armincx cancels orders, issues refunds and changes addresses directly in Shopify; on average across the benchmark study 32.9% of all tickets are automated, rising to 61.2% of resolved tickets in the top quartile.
Does a Shopify helpdesk also work for Amazon enquiries?
It depends. Gorgias, Richpanel and Freshdesk have no native Amazon channel, whereas eDesk and armincx pull marketplace enquiries into the same inbox as your Shopify tickets.
