Gorgias is the established leader in Shopify support. By its own account, 40% of Shopify brands run their customer conversations through Gorgias. Your team handles refunds, cancellations and order edits right inside the ticket, and that has worked well for years. Anyone looking for a Gorgias alternative anyway usually has a maths problem: Gorgias bills per ticket, and every AI resolution comes on top. This article gives you ten alternatives, two worked cost examples and the points where Gorgias stops fitting shops selling into Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The Short Answer
Yes. Depending on your shop setup, you will find an alternative to Gorgias in several tools. For Shopify shops with WhatsApp as their main channel and an EU hosting requirement, armincx by Chatarmin is the obvious choice, for enterprise breadth Zendesk, and for AI deflection on top of an existing helpdesk Fin (formerly Intercom). Price-sensitive small teams do better with Zoho Desk or Help Scout.

What Is Gorgias, and Why Do Shops Leave?
Gorgias was founded in San Francisco in 2015 (company profile). More than 15,000 e-commerce brands used the platform according to the funding announcement from May 2024, and today Gorgias cites 40% of Shopify brands (pricing page). The product is strong: on Shopify, refunds, cancellations and order edits happen inside the ticket (analysis).
Shops still leave. Four reasons come up again and again.
1. Ticket pricing as a growth tax. The helpdesk plans are tiered by ticket volume, each on monthly billing (gorgias.com/pricing, retrieved 22 September 2026):
- Starter: USD 10 for 50 tickets
- Basic: USD 60 for 300 tickets
- Pro: USD 360 for 2,000 tickets
- Advanced: USD 900 for 5,000 tickets
Above that, every ticket is billed individually: USD 0.40 on Starter and Basic, USD 0.36 on Pro and Advanced, USD 0.32 on Enterprise (overage tiers, verified against the pricing page). A ticket becomes billable as soon as a message goes out, whether it comes from a human, the AI or a rule (pricing page, FAQ).
2. AI costs extra. The AI Agent costs USD 0.90 per resolved conversation on most plans and USD 1 on Starter. Plans include 90 to 2,500+ automated interactions, and beyond that you pay USD 0.83 to 2.00 per interaction depending on the tier (Gorgias AI Agent pricing). According to the Gorgias billing documentation, the AI fee comes on top of the ticket fee: every AI-resolved conversation also counts as a billable ticket (billing docs).
3. Channel and platform limits. WhatsApp can be activated free of charge, but answered WhatsApp tickets count against your allowance. To be fair: Gorgias currently covers the WhatsApp usage fees itself, while reserving the right to pass them on later (WhatsApp FAQ). Voice and SMS are paid add-ons (pricing page).
The platform limits are harder to swallow for DACH merchants:
- AI Agent only with Shopify: according to the Gorgias documentation, the AI Agent requires a connected Shopify store and does not run on BigCommerce, Magento or WooCommerce (docs).
- Order Management only with Shopify: the compatibility overview lists this as Shopify-only as well (docs).
- Shopware and JTL: Gorgias lists Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento and WooCommerce as its e-commerce platforms. If you run Shopware or JTL, ask about the specific connector up front.
4. Data protection and currency. Gorgias hosts on Google Cloud with regional clusters in the USA, the EU and Australia, according to this secondary source from October 2025. A DPA (data processing agreement) with EU standard contractual clauses under implementing decision 2021/914 is available (DPA). Get written confirmation that your account stays on EU servers before you sign. Gorgias publishes its list prices in USD (pricing page).
What Do the Gorgias Alternatives Offer in Detail?
armincx
Strengths: WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, email and chat run in one inbox, with WhatsApp as the primary channel. AI agents are part of the package price (vendor statement). Shopify and Klaviyo are connected natively, and order data triggers workflows. Hosting is in Frankfurt, and we are ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified by TÜV Austria. The top quarter of 140 active merchants (35 shops) automates an average of 61.2% of resolved tickets.
Limits: We specialise in e-commerce and messaging. For ITSM, classic enterprise IT helpdesks or heavily regulated industries outside retail, other tools fit better.
Price: Package pricing based on needs and volume, with no per-seat billing (vendor statement). Meta fees for WhatsApp are usage-based and apply with every provider. We pass them on without a mark-up.
Who it is for: DACH shops on Shopify that run WhatsApp as their main channel and want German- and English-speaking support. For WhatsApp marketing, armincx can be combined with Chatarmin.
Zendesk
Strengths: Wide channel and feature coverage, workforce management, contact centre, deep reporting. Suite Team starts at USD 55 per agent per month, Support Team at USD 19 (annual, pricing overview, July 2026). WhatsApp comes with every Suite plan (source).
Limits: Each extra module, whether Copilot, Workforce Engagement or Contact Center, adds USD 50 per agent per month (source). Every plan includes an allocation of automated resolutions, and Zendesk does not publish the overage rate. Third-party reports quote USD 1.50 to 2.00 per resolution (source). There is a 14-day trial, but no permanent free plan.
Who it is for: Organisations with 20 or more agents, established processes and their own admin budget.
Fin (formerly Intercom)
Strengths: Clean outcome pricing. USD 0.99 per outcome, only one outcome per conversation even if Fin performs several actions (fin.ai/pricing). Fin also runs standalone on third-party helpdesks, Gorgias included, with a minimum of 50 outcomes per month (source).
Limits: Resolution counting partly relies on assumption. If a customer leaves the conversation after Fin's last reply without asking a new question, it counts as resolved (documentation). Copilot costs USD 35 per integration per month (fin.ai/pricing).
Context: Intercom renamed itself Fin in mid-2026. Since 10 September 2026, Fin has belonged to Salesforce, with the deal closed (Salesforce).
Who it is for: Shops that want to test AI deflection separately from their helpdesk.
Freshdesk (Freshworks)
Strengths: Per agent per month on annual billing you pay USD 19 on Growth, USD 55 on Pro and USD 89 on Enterprise (overview, August 2026). Small teams with up to two agents can use Freshdesk free for the first six months. A good fit if you have many agents and high email volume.
Limits: According to the same source, true omnichannel only comes with the more expensive Omni plans. For live chat, telephony or resolving AI you buy modules with their own pricing logic (criticism from a competitor).
Who it is for: Larger support teams with a classic ticket focus.
Zoho Desk
Strengths: The price leader. Express USD 7, Standard USD 14, Professional USD 23, Enterprise USD 40 per agent per month, plus a free plan for three agents (pricing analysis, June 2026). If you already run Zoho CRM, the suite logic applies.
Limits: Zoho shows prices in local currency, so check your region (source). We found no source confirming refunds and order edits directly from the ticket. Ask to see it in the demo.
Who it is for: Budget-conscious teams on a Zoho stack.
Help Scout
Strengths: Lightweight shared inbox, fast onboarding. Free up to five users, Standard USD 25, Plus USD 45, Pro USD 75 per user per month (annual, pricing overview, August 2026). AI Answers costs USD 0.75 per resolution.
Limits: The free plan is tight: one inbox, one docs site, 100 contacts per month (source).
Who it is for: Teams of up to five people with an email focus.
Tidio (Lyro)
Strengths: Free plan, Starter USD 29, Growth USD 59 per month, roughly 17% cheaper on annual billing. Lyro as an AI add-on from USD 39, Flows from USD 29. Solid chat widgets for small shops.
Limits: The jump from Growth at USD 59 to Plus from USD 749 is twelvefold, with no mid tier in between. Self-service plans cap at ten seats. You manage three parallel quotas:
- Billable conversations
- Lyro conversations
- Flow triggers
All Tidio figures come from our own pricing review, as of 07/2026.
Who it is for: Shops under 1,000 conversations per month.
Crisp
Strengths: Company based in France, hosting on EU servers, DPA available (overview). Priced per workspace instead of per seat: Free with two seats, Mini USD 45 with four, Essentials USD 95 with ten, Plus USD 295 with twenty (pricing analysis, August 2026).
Limits: Hard seat cliffs. Once your team grows past four seats, the bill jumps from USD 45 to USD 95, and from eleven seats to USD 295 (source). AI credits are metered and expire monthly.
Who it is for: EU teams with a stable headcount and a chat focus.
Richpanel
Strengths: The most direct Gorgias competitor. USD 99 per seat plus around USD 0.20 per AI conversation, minimum USD 200 per month (richpanel.com). One-click import of tickets, macros, tags and rules from Gorgias, Zendesk and Intercom. Unified inbox with WhatsApp, SMS, voice and social (source).
Limits: Gorgias itself criticises the two-part model: a per-agent fee plus an order-based fee for the self-service portal that rises with order volume (source, competitor). Check the current tiers directly with Richpanel.
Who it is for: Shopify shops that want Gorgias-style logic but prefer to pay per seat.
eDesk
Strengths: Built for marketplaces. When messages come in from Amazon, eBay, Shopify or social, order history and tracking appear in the ticket automatically. Essential USD 39, Growth USD 89, Professional USD 119 per agent per month (annual, cost comparison). Growth includes unlimited tickets across up to five channels.
Limits: You get the AI agent on every tier, but each automated outcome costs USD 0.99 extra (eDesk pricing). On monthly billing, a third-party source puts Essential at USD 49 instead of USD 39 (source). For WhatsApp, the eDesk documentation covers the inbox and template import, but not campaign sends (docs).
Who it is for: Multichannel sellers with a share of Amazon and eBay revenue.
Which Gorgias Alternative for Shopify Fits Your Ecom Stack?
The Shopify integration decides whether your team stays in the tool or jumps into the admin. Ask four concrete questions:
- Write access, not just read access. Refunds, cancellations and order edits have to work inside the ticket. Gorgias can do this on Shopify, and its compatibility overview lists Order Management as Shopify-only (docs).
- Subscription and ERP connections. With subscription models you need Recharge or a comparable app in the ticket context. DACH shops often add Billbee, JTL or Xentral. Ask for the specific connector, not for an API.
- WhatsApp as a full channel. The 24-hour customer service window applies everywhere, Gorgias included (WhatsApp FAQ). What matters is whether templates, opt-in and marketing sends live in the same tool. Otherwise you maintain two systems on one number.
- Number migration. When you switch through a third-party path, templates, the verification tick and your quality rating can be lost. Gorgias describes exactly this in its own docs (source). Ask to see the migration path before you commit.
How Much Does Gorgias Cost Compared to the Alternatives?
Both cases use annual billing so the models are comparable. Billed annually, Gorgias costs USD 300 for Pro and USD 750 for Advanced (pricing page). Agent counts are assumptions: 6 agents for 2,000 tickets, 20 agents for 10,000 tickets. Map them against your own rota.
Case A: 2,000 tickets per month, 6 agents
| Tool | Calculation | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Gorgias Pro | USD 300, volume within the allowance | USD 300 |
| Zendesk Suite Team | 6 × USD 55 | USD 330 |
| Zoho Desk Professional | 6 × USD 23 | USD 138 |
| eDesk Growth | 6 × USD 89 | USD 534 |
| Richpanel | 6 × USD 99, plus AI conversations | USD 594 |
At 2,000 tickets Gorgias is competitive. The cost per ticket is 15 cents.
Case B: 10,000 tickets per month, 20 agents
Advanced covers 5,000 tickets. The remaining 5,000 are billed as overage at USD 0.36 each, which is USD 1,800 on top of the base fee.
| Tool | Calculation | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Gorgias Advanced + overage | USD 750 + 5,000 × USD 0.36 | USD 2,550 |
| Zendesk Suite Team | 20 × USD 55 | USD 1,100 |
| Zoho Desk Professional | 20 × USD 23 | USD 460 |
| eDesk Growth | 20 × USD 89 | USD 1,780 |
| Richpanel | 20 × USD 99, plus AI conversations | USD 1,980 |
The Gorgias cost per ticket rises to around 25 cents, roughly 70% more than in Case A. Volume is five times higher, the bill more than eight times. This is where the maths tips. Then there is the AI: USD 0.90 per resolved conversation, and USD 0.83 to 2.00 per interaction above the allowance depending on the tier (Gorgias AI Agent pricing). Because every AI resolution also counts as a ticket, automation does not reduce the ticket volume on your invoice (billing docs).
Two caveats:
- Per-agent models look cheaper on paper, but only if your team stays the same size while volume grows. That works with high automation and short handling times.
- Factor in Meta fees. If you serve DACH customers on WhatsApp, compare total cost including Meta fees, because every provider handles who pays them differently.
What Experiences Do Users Have With Gorgias?
- OMR Reviews, the leading software review platform in the DACH region: there is hardly any data for DACH. OMR lists a Gorgias profile but states itself that there are too few reviews for a summary (retrieved 22 September 2026). So there is no reliable German-language overall score.
- G2: 4.6 out of 5 from 579 reviews (retrieved 22 September 2026, reviews). Users praise usability and integrations, especially Shopify, and having every channel in one inbox. Criticism covers slow support responses during peak periods, missing custom reporting and a live chat interface that cannot be fully branded.
- Capterra Germany: 4.6 out of 5 from 132 reviews (retrieved 22 September 2026, profile). One reviewer finds the platform less intuitive than expected and misses basics such as saving a filtered inbox view.
- Shopify App Store: 4.3 out of 5 from 607 reviews (retrieved 22 September 2026). The distribution is the real story: 84% five stars, 9% one star, almost nothing in between (listing). A merchant with three years of use reports costs that got out of hand and support that was hard to reach (review from 1 December 2025). Gorgias replied publicly on 22 January 2026. Another merchant writes that prices rose disproportionately and the dedicated CSM was removed.
- Trustpilot: 147 contributors; we have not confirmed the overall score from a primary source. Recurring criticism: software at times buggy, documentation with dead links, AI that feels unfinished (profile).
- TrustRadius: Rules are powerful but clunky. One user explicitly asks for better WhatsApp support in customer interactions (reviews).
Our reading: buyer platforms praise the product, merchant platforms turn on billing and support. The 0.3-point gap between G2 and the Shopify App Store is the signal.
How Do You Switch From Gorgias? A 7-Step Checklist
- Pull your export. Back up tickets, contacts, tags and custom fields via CSV or API. Better two weeks early than on the day you cancel.
- Inventory your macros. Usually 20% of macros cover 80% of replies. Those are the only ones you need to migrate.
- Document your automation rules. Every rule that closes or tags tickets affects your reporting. Write down the logic, not just the name.
- Plan your WhatsApp number. Clarify the migration path before you cancel. Otherwise you risk your templates and quality rating.
- Reset Shopify permissions. Test refund and order edit scopes in the new tool with a test order.
- Run SLAs and opening hours in parallel. Two weeks of dual running on one channel, then move the rest.
- Plan a run-off period. Keep history visible until old cases are closed. Only then switch off.
Who Does armincx Fit, and Who Does It Not?
What speaks for armincx:
- Your customers prefer to message you on WhatsApp, or you want to move them there.
- Your legal team requires EU hosting.
- You want German- and English-speaking support and a predictable package price instead of ticket overage.
- You want to plan WhatsApp marketing with Chatarmin alongside it.
What speaks against armincx:
- You need an ITSM helpdesk for internal IT.
- You manage 100 agents with workforce management and forecasting. Then Zendesk is the more honest answer.
- Almost all of your volume comes through Amazon and eBay. Then look at eDesk.
- You want to start without a budget. Then Tidio Free or Help Scout Free are the better entry point.
Disclosure: armincx is our product. The facts stated are vendor statements, except for the certification, which you can verify with TÜV Austria.
When Should You Stay With Gorgias?
If your ticket volume sits predictably below your plan allowance, Gorgias is strong on price. At 2,000 tickets on Pro you pay 15 cents per ticket on annual billing, regardless of team size. That is cheaper than Zendesk Suite Team with six agents; only Zoho Desk comes in clearly lower per agent.
Shopify depth remains an argument too. Refunds, cancellations and order edits inside the ticket have been mature for years. If you are a pure Shopify DTC shop, only run email and chat and can live with USD billing, there is little reason to switch. Switching pays off when your volume fluctuates, WhatsApp becomes important or EU hosting is mandatory.

Gorgias vs Zendesk vs Fin: which fits which shop size?
In our assessment, Gorgias fits predictable volume below the ticket cap, usually up to around 15 agents. Zendesk fits from 20 agents with process requirements, and Fin (formerly Intercom) works as an AI layer on top of an existing helpdesk.
Conclusion: When Is a Gorgias Alternative Worth It?
Gorgias is a strong product with a pricing model that makes you pay for growth. At 2,000 tickets that works; at 10,000 the same service costs you around 70% more per ticket. On top come AI fees per resolution and USD billing.
Check three things before you sign:
- the cost curve at double your volume,
- the WhatsApp migration path,
- the server location in the DPA.
